The head of the Gorgon, Medusa, has been pictured as a constellation since ancient times but it is now simply part of the larger constellation Perseus. The stars β Per (Algol), π Per, ρ Per and ω Per make up the group. This fearsome foursome have also been known as Gorgonea Prima, Gorgonea Secunda, Gorgonea Tertia, and Gorgonea Quarta, the first, second, third and fourth stars of the Gorgon. The winged stallion, Pegasus, sprang from her blood.
