Globus Aerostaticus

The Hot Air Balloon

Abbreviation:Glo
Genitive:Globi Aerostatici
Origin:Joseph Jérôme de Lalande, 1798

Joseph Jérôme de Lalande (1732–1807) was a French astronomer, perhaps best known for his work in planetary theory. He proposed several constellations, none of which survive to this day. Globus Aerostaticus honoured the Montgolfier brothers' recent invention of the hot air balloon. It floats unseen through the skies near Piscis Austrinis and Capricornus.
