Obituary : Charles Edward Thorp
Charles Edward Thorp, 62, passed away Friday, June 14, 1946, at his home
following an illness of two weeks. He had suffered a stroke. He was born at
Storm Lake, Iowa, and lived here for nearly 30 years. He developed the Thorp
special raspberry and had marketed these fine plants throughout the Pacific
Northwest. The berry strain was so marked that the Stark Nursery Company had
tried hard to purchase it from Mr. Thorp but he declined to sell. Funeral
rites were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. from the Moon Chapel with the Rev.
Merrill C. Skaug officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Cemetery. The
Eagles Lodge of which he was a member, had charge of the services. Surviving
are his widow, Augusta, three brothers, Roy, Sandpoint; George, Kelso,
Washington; and John, Monroe, Washington; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Powell and
Mrs. Nina Martin, Sandpoint; and Mrs. Florence Stellpflue, Black Diamond,
Washington.
